Packers and Movers Safety and Scam Checklist
Moving scams often depend on rushed decisions, unclear identity or verbal-only pricing. Take a few verification steps before handing over goods or making a large payment, even when the move is urgent.
Before Booking a Moving Company
- Match the business name, phone, website and address across the quotation and payment request.
- Ask who will perform packing, who will transport the goods and who will handle delivery communication.
- Read recent reviews for patterns, but do not treat a single rating or screenshot as complete verification.
- Request a written inventory-based estimate and check whether it can change after loading.
- Avoid sharing OTPs, card PINs, remote-screen access or unrelated identity information.
Payment and Document Safety
- Confirm the payee name before transferring money and ask for a receipt for each payment.
- Do not accept unexplained last-minute charges; compare them with the written scope and inventory change.
- Keep the quotation, inventory, payment proof, vehicle details and important messages until delivery is resolved.
- Do not sign blank forms or documents with unfilled amounts and conditions.
- For high-value goods, discuss declared value and transit-protection terms before pickup.
On Move Day
Verify the arriving team and vehicle against the booking contact. Record important item condition, count major packages and keep valuables and personal documents with you. Make sure the destination contact knows the expected delivery range.
When Something Changes
Ask for the reason, revised scope and amount in writing. Do not approve a change you do not understand. A genuine operational delay can happen, but the provider should explain it without pressuring you into unrelated payments or access requests.
